This one is golden especially when you travel internationally and your operator is charging you an insanely high price for roaming data. For this situation and more, we’ve got your back, as usual.
Why you’re going to love this
Because it’s free and rewarding. Trust me, you’ll tap yourself on the shoulder for doing a magnificent job at not paying that ridiculous roaming fee.
What you’ll need
A smartphone and the Google Maps app installed.
How you’ll do it
This tutorial assumes you’re doing this before your actual travel, ideally at home or work, where you have a WiFi connection that you normally use.
- Open the Google maps app on your phone.
- If you’re on an iPhone, search for the name of the city you’re going to travel to.
- Swipe up on that search result and then tap the 3 dots at the top right of the screen
- Select Download Offline Map and then choose the area you know you will be traveling into (include vicinities as well as the airport and other routes close by)
- Tap Download.
That’s it! Next time you’ll be traveling to that location, even when your phone will in flight mode, you will still be able to navigate using Google Maps as the use of GPS is not restricted even in offline mode, and the map will be available!
Best part: you’re not going to pay anything. There, I said it.
